Trouble with "Finish recording" on Ubuntu 23.04

hiya - Kazam starts recording fine, but I can't seem to finish the recording. Clicking on the icon at the top bar (see screenshot), I can see the options, but it doesn't respond to any clicks, so it doesn't allow me to finish the recording.

I tried the keyboard shortcuts, but the finish recording doesn't respond well (often takes many, many key presses)

• start recording = "Windows logo" + "Control" + "r" = works consistently
• finish recording = "Windows logo" + "Control" + "f" = inconsistent (often takes lots of key presses)

Workaround: using SimpleScreenRecorder

I prefer using Kazam. Is it possible to fix the icon so its responsive to "Finish recording" mouse click? I'm not sure if its a gnome issue? Kazam was working fine on Ubuntu 22.10.

kazam version: 1.4.5 (installed via apt)
ubuntu: 23.04
gnome version: 44.1 (think ubuntu 22.10 has gnome 43)

Followed readme from forked project (Niknah) and it was super helpful. Thank you Niknah!

After installing the above, the keyboard shortcut to Finish Recording is very responsive. Just one time and it works. Very effective workaround, I can now use Kazam again & don't have to use SimpleScreenRecorder any more.

However, it would still be nice to have the icon respond to mouse clicks (Finish Recording). Start Recording works but not Finish Recording. Fixing this would make it as nice to use as previously in 22.10.

Thanks! A menu should popup when you click on the icon. On Ubuntu, maybe try clicking it a few times, don't know why it doesn't appear some times.

hiya @niknah - the menu does pop up, but the issue is that they're all greyed out, so it doesn't respond to selection. See screenshot below, the menu has "Start recording" & "Quit" white meaning its selectable & works, but "Pause recording" & "Finish recording" is greyed out. After starting recording, usually the icon has "Pause recording" & "Finish recording" white and selectable (works in Ubuntu 22.10) but in Ubuntu 23.04 they're not ever white and selectable.

This was a blocker until the keyboard shortcut to "Finish recording" worked consistently (by installing the extra python packages for Ubuntu 23 you specified). Still, it would be nice to get the icon and mouse click selections working too (for finish & pause recording), for users not knowing the shortcuts.
