connect tests flaky?

After merging #324 I noticed the "Build+test (macos-latest, clang, stable)" failed. Attached are the raw exported logs.

Re-running the job resulted in a clean pass, indicating there's probably some flakyness. Todo: investigate whether it's specific to #324 or a pre-existing problem.
